The airport is 15 km from central Tangier. You have four sensible options. Here's the honest breakdown.
Option 1 — Petit taxi (cheapest)
Blue taxis at the official rank outside arrivals. Insist on the meter ("compteur s'il vous plaît") or agree on 150 MAD (~€14) before getting in. After 8 pm a 50% night surcharge applies — ~250 MAD. Cash only, in dirhams.
Option 2 — Pre-booked private transfer (easiest)
From €25 for up to 3 people. Driver waits with a name sign in arrivals, fixed price, paid online. Best if you're arriving late, with kids, or with a lot of luggage.
Option 3 — Car hire
From €18/day if booked ahead. Worth it if you plan day trips to Cap Spartel, Asilah or Chefchaouen. Tangier has free street parking in most neighbourhoods (not in the medina).
Option 4 — Bus #99
Public bus runs roughly every 60–90 minutes, 6 am – 9 pm, to Avenue Mohammed VI in the city. 5 MAD (€0.50). Cash only, exact change. Slow and inconvenient with luggage — only choose this if you're a confident solo traveller on a tight budget.
Avoiding scams
Uber, Careem and Bolt do not operate at TNG. Anyone in arrivals offering you a "special taxi" is a tout — ignore them and walk to the official blue-taxi rank. Always agree the price before you load luggage.
